Aléria
Aleria was built in the 6th century, on the
eastern plain then an ancient Roman and pre-Roman city, during antiquity,
Aleria was the capital of Corsica.
Until its destruction by vandals, Aleria was also a seaport, a colony, and a center for the dissemination of Christianity.
Today, this small village still being excavated, is near the old fort of Matra built in the 16th century during the Genoese period and which also houses the Archaeological Museum of Aleria.
