Organized since 2016 by the City of Ajaccio and the Ajaccian Country Community, the Ajaccio carnival is a key moment indicating the start of summer in the imperial city!

For two days at the end of the afternoon it is in a friendly atmosphere that thousands of participants, young and old mainly coming from the Grand Ajaccio region, roam the main artery of the city of Ajaccio alongside the various floats specially decorated on the occasion and according to the theme of the day.

In a lively and above all very colorful atmosphere the carnivalists compete in inventiveness to create the most beautiful disguises and impress the spectators who come in large numbers to attend the parade.

In 2019, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the birth of Napoleon numerous troops intended to celebrate the Emperor in period costumes as well as through strolls of living paintings presenting the Bonaparte family. However due to the heat wave Ajaccio's carnival was canceled.

Note that each year the Ajaccio carnival festivities end at 10 p.m. on the Place du Diamant with a large costume ball.
