The Restonica valley

restonica-1572358211.jpg

With the lakes of Melo, Capitello, Gori, the Rotondu massif as well as the magnificent mountain landscapes flowing into the different rivers, in the heart of Corsica, the Restonica valley offers a magnificent getaway

Visit the remarkable landscape of la Restonica ...

The road winds along a foaming mountain stream, a tributary to the Tavignano, which it meets at Corte. A fast and furious watercourse, it is only 17 km long but following it upstream leads to the Grotelle shepherd huts that mark the point of departure for excursions to the lakes at Melu, Capitellu, and Gori and many more in the Rotondu mountain chain.
This is the island's second highest peak (2,625 m).

The narrow road is so popular in summer that vehicle access has to be rationed to avoid extraordinary tailbacks. The waters of the river are particularly clear and the name Restonica comes from the Latin Cres tonica meaning tonic thing.
The foaming waters rush through white and brown rocks in the midst of forests of pines that would be far denser than they are, were it not for the recurrence of fires in the summer season.

This is a road of many inns and traditional restaurants, of outstandingly high reputation.

When you get to your destination at Grotelle, the famous Melu lake stands one and a half hours further away still.
This does not deter visitors in the summer season! As many as a thousand a day make their way here and of course, do not regret it!
