With an important natural and architectural heritage, Corsica abounds in marvels like for example, the Scandola natural reserve, the Cuscionu plateau as well as numerous transhumance trails. All these wealth are protected and valued by the Corsican Natural and Regional Park

Land use planning and protection of plant life

Land use is a major facet of the Corsican Natural and Regional Park's responsibility and nowhere more so than in the mountain lakes, or in the Scandola reserve that faces onto the sea. Other important protected natural areas are the plateau of Cuscionu between Taravu and Alta Rocca.
Among Corsican nature some of these areas of particular natural biodiversity are under threat and require special attention and scientific monitoring. Among these are the pozzines, expanses of level natural turf growing round small ponds or lakes, along valley bottoms at high altitude.

Conservation of buildings

Preserving the architectural and landscape quality of the villages that are typically found in the island hinterland, is one of the major missions of the Corsican Natural and Regional Park.
The restoration of the working buildings that used to be fundamental to the rural economy, takes place in conjunction with the Office of the Environment. Fountains, bread ovens, oil presses and characteristic rural buildings are all given special attention.

The renovation of heritage buildings is a priority, as these constructions are illustrative of the social life of ancestral societies. They also have much to teach us about the understanding of the natural environment of ancient local populations. Paths that fell into disrepair are now restored.
Among these are Scala di Santa Regina in the Niolu region, and Spelunca between Evisa and Porto, along which sheep were driven from the lowlands in summer to cooler, higher pastures (transhumance).
The Corsican Natural and Regional Park manages remarkable archaeological heritage sites in the Commune of Levie, at Cucuruzzu and Capula.
