D227 Road to TAVERA and its prehistoric menhir monumental statue and Santa Maria church (1590), including its Romanesque chapel). Return to AJACCIO by N193.

PRUNELLI GORGES
The tour of the Prunelli Gorges is known as the Maquis Circuit, as the foot paths take visitors through wild and unspoilt Corsican countryside abounding with the fragrant scrub vegetation known as maquis. The panoramas are remarkable.

From Ajaccio, take the N196 to Cauro, followed by the D27 for 17 km, through Zipitoli forest, crossing the pretty Genoese bridge. Then turn left on the D3.
Tolla is a village surrounded by apple, nut and chestnut orchards.

The lake is used for various watersports, and the hairpin bend descent towards Ocana gives amazing views over the whole of the mountain chain. Then take the road to Bastelicaccia back to Ajaccio.
